Dear Members and Chambering Pupils of the Selangor Bar,



Please be advised that the Chief Justice of Malaysia, YAA Tun Wan Ahmad Farid bin Wan Salleh, has issued Surat Penting Ketua Hakim Negara Bil. 2 Tahun 2026 – Penyertaan Peguam Muda Dalam Advokasi Lisan Di Mahkamah, dated 29th September, 2026.



The Chief Justice has highlighted the importance of developing and maintaining effective oral advocacy skills among advocates, including Young Lawyers.



In this regard, where appropriate, and having regard to the nature and circumstances of the case, Young Lawyers assisting lead counsel in civil or criminal matters should be afforded opportunities to participate in oral advocacy before the Court.



The responsibility of the lead counsel for the conduct of the case remains unchanged. At the same time, proper supervision should be provided to Young Lawyers to enable them to develop their oral advocacy skills and to ensure the smooth conduct of proceedings before the Court.



Members are advised to take note of the above and to give due consideration to providing appropriate opportunities for Young Lawyers in their respective firms to participate in oral advocacy.
