Dear Members & Pupils of the Selangor Bar,

We have received an official complaint from a member of the Bar recently about the woes faced by lawyers pertaining to the long and arduous walk from the Basement level Carpark right up till the Court complex which may even be more inconvenient for ladies walking with heels, pregnant ladies and the senior members of our Selangor Bar. The predicament faced by our members will be further compounded with unpredictable weather when it rains .

We are aware that the Court has restricted direct access to the Annex building by closing up both the doors to the lifts and the staircase at the Basement level carpark leading to members having to perilously walk up the ramp that leads to the Basement level carpark. We are also aware that the usual exits at the Basement level Carpark have been closed and vehicles exiting the Basement Carpark will have to exit the same way through the main entry.

The Selangor Bar Committee has met up with the Ketua Pengarah Mahkamah Shah Alam on 25.3.2021 to raise all these pertinent issues and we understand from the meeting that due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there is a specific direction from the Chief Judge of Malaya for there to be only one entry point to access the Court building (i.e. from the main lobby) and as such in compliance with this direction, the Courts are not expecting to change the current arrangements concerning the Basement level Carpark.

Additionally, the Courts are aware of the concerns raised and are currently in discussions with the Selangor Bar Committee on alternative parking arrangements that may, to an extend solve these issues. We hope to share some good news to our members as soon we get a positive confirmation and agreement from the Ketua Pengarah Mahkamah Shah Alam.

Thank you.
