CLE Report : Seminar on Legal Groundwork Towards IPO

The CLE Sub-Committee organised a seminar titled 'Legal Groundwork Towards IPO', on 10th May 2012. The Seminar was presented by Mr. Chan Chee Woei from Messrs Tay & Helen Wong at the Selangor Bar Auditorium. 56 participants attended the seminar which provided an overview on legal practice in this area of the law.

Topics covered by the seminar include IPO Authorities, Relevant Principal Regulations, Restructuring for IPO, Legal Compliance, Infringement of laws/regulations, Breach of Disclosures, Directors and Disclosure and Due Diligence & Verification.

There was active question and answer session and as a token of appreciation, Mr Thiru Kumar presented a plague to Mr Chan Chee Woei.

The evening ended with participants having light refreshments.

Dear Members,

Kindly be informed that the Bar Council Criminal Law Committee (CLC) is organising a dialogue with our criminal law practitioners on the 26th May 2012, Saturday at 10am-12pm at the Bar Council Auditorium.

We were made to understand that some of our members have raised concerns regarding:

(a)Difficulties in their practice since the formation of the Yayasan Bantuan Guaman Kebangsaan(YBGK);
(b)Possible conflict of interest arising from ex-DPPS starting criminal practice at the same courts or district in which they were prosecuting before;
(c)Problems of lawyers appointing touts to accompany them in court to act as their so called 'assistants'.
(d)Concerns that lawyers are being rushed to complete cases;
(e)Issue of Judges entering the arena of prosecution.

Therefore, we would like to invite all Selangor Bar members who are facing similar difficulties or any other problems in relation to their criminal practice, to come forward and attend this meeting to voice your grievances. All criminal lawyers are urged to attend this dialogue so that your views can be heard and taken into consideration.
